Rakvica Selected All-Big Ten
Bloomington, Ind. -Senior Milan Rakvica was selected All-Big Ten for the third straight season. Rakvica becomes the fourth Hoosier to be selected to three straight All-Big Ten teams. The other three Hoosiers to be selected All-Big Ten three straight years are Doug Sullivan, 1973-75, Sven Salumaa, 1986-88, and Gunnar Salumaa, 1989-91.
It was a no brainer, said Indiana Head Coach Ken Hydinger. He was clearly an All-Big Ten selection, and it is a well-deserved honor. It is very tough to be All-Big Ten, but it is even tougher to be All-Big Ten three straight seasons. He is one of the best in the conference, and he has played at a consistently high level. Very few guys make it three years in a row.
The Zlin, Czech Republic native finished his Indiana career ranked fifth on the all-time singles wins list with 91, and seventh on the all-time doubles list with 69 victories. He also ranks among the top 10 in all-time Big Ten singles and doubles victories at Indiana. He finished his third straight season playing No. 1 singles for the Hoosiers at 18-14, with a 4-6 mark in conference singles action. Over the last few months of the season, he teamed with fellow senior Ari Widlansky to go 4-3 in Big Ten doubles competition. Rakvica also finished the season ranked 66th on the Omni Hotels Collegiate Singles Rankings. It is the second straight season Rakvica finished ranked among the ITAs top 70. Last season, he finished the year ranked 58th.
