May 19, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Lachlan Ferguson has been named the Ohio Valley regional nominee for the ITA/Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced. The award goes to a men's player who displays sportsmanship, character, excellent academics and has had outstanding tennis accomplishments.
Indiana head coach Randy Bloemendaal said that Ferguson's never-ending drive to pursue excellence while maintaining integrity and poise makes him a very great candidate for the award.
"Lachlan competed very hard during his time at Indiana," said Bloemendaal, "and while competing hard I believe he did an outstanding job of representing Indiana University. He also demanded integrity and sportsmanship on the court with his teammates during practice as well as in matches."
This season, Ferguson was key to the Hoosiers success in dual matches. He had a season mark of 12-6 in dual match singles and 18-8 in dual match doubles. His 69 career doubles wins rank as the seventh-most in school history. The Adelaide, Australia, native volunteered his time off the court to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank, the Special Olympics as well as many other local non-profits.
