TULSA, Okla.-- Fifty-first ranked Jakub Praibis of the IU men's tennis team got past the first round of the 2004 NCAA Singles Championships in Tulsa, Okla., on Wednesday afternoon after he topped No. 59 Calle Hansen of Pepperdine in a very close match, 6-3,3-6,7-6.

The Litomerice, Czech Republic native played through misty conditions with a little bit of wind, but proved he was stronger than the competition.

"Jakub came out really good and took control early," said head coach Ken Hydinger. "He got down 4-1 in the third set, but pulled it together and had some big passing shots and serves. He made a very good comeback to win it."

Praibis will face No. 3 Jeremy Wurtzman of Ohio State tomorrow in the round of 32 at 9: 00 a.m. Praibis will have his work cut out for him when he goes up against Wurtzman. The two met up during the regular season on April 3 and then No. 1 ranked Wurtzman topped Praibis 2-6,6-4,6-0.
