Ferguson Named Academic All-American

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Lachlan Ferguson has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Third Team, CoSIDA announced on Tuesday, June 8. The honor is the first ever for an IU men's tennis player.
Indiana men's tennis head coach Randy Bloemendaal said Ferguson has represented the IU men's tennis program well and it is fitting that he would garner the program's first Academic All-America certificate.
"I am very proud of Lachlan and his continued success in the classroom," said Bloemendaal. "I would like to thank him for earning such a distinguished academic honor for Indiana, the IU Athletics and the men's tennis team."
This season, Ferguson was key to the Hoosiers success in dual matches. He had a season mark of 12-6 in dual match singles and 18-8 in dual match doubles. His 69 career doubles wins rank as the seventh-most in school history. The Adelaide, Australia, native volunteered his time off the court to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank, the Special Olympics as well as many other local non-profits. He was also named the Ohio Valley region's honoree for the ITA/Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award. A fitness specialist major, Ferguson graduated with a 3.86 grade point average.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
