BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's tennis coach Ken Hydinger will welcome a pair of student-athletes onto campus this fall. Dara McLoughlin and Michael McCarthy will join a Hoosier squad that finished fourth in the Big Ten last year. Both players come to Bloomington with excellent credentials.

"These two freshmen that are coming in will be very competitive," said Hydinger. "We return all eight players from last year, but I expect these two to come and challenge for a spot in the lineup. That puts us 10-players deep and make for a very competitive atmosphere."

McLoughlin, a Dublin, Ireland native, was an alternate for the 2004 Ireland Davis Cup team that recently faced the Ukraine on July 16-18. He earned a spot on the team after winning a competitive eight-person "5th Man Trial" round-robin tournament. The objective of the tournament was to provide an opportunity for a junior player to gain experience of international team competition at the top level.

McCarthy is originally from the Cincinnati, Ohio and is the younger brother of current IU senior tennis player Ryan McCarthy. The younger McCarthy was the Ohio High School Boys' singles champion. He concluded his senior year at Indian Hill High School with an overall record of 38-0 that earned him All-American honors.

The Hoosiers finished last season with a record of 12-12 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Championship. IU closed the year ranked 61st in the country the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll.
