First Day of ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit Leg In The Books

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The first day of the 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Collegiate Summer Circuit hosted by Indiana University in the books and the five players representing Indiana posted a perfect 5-0 combined record on the day. Four members of the IU men's team are participating while one from the Indiana women's team is playing. Third round play will resume on Sunday at the IU Varsity Tennis courts and the SRSC courts.
In the men's draw, Maxime Armengaud got a first round bye and then defeated Amanvir Gil in round two, 6-0, 6-1. His third round opponent will be Michael Basha from Western Michigan. Santiago Gruter also received a bye in the first round and then defeated Justin Haag from Western Illinois, 6-3, 6-4. Gruter will take on Derek Carpenter from Ball State in the third round on Sunday. Stephen Vogl took down his second round opponent, Hunter Schouweiler, by a 6-0, 6-3 score and will play Ray Leonard in round three. And finally, Jeremy Langer downed Zane Smith from Ball State in his second round match on Saturday, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the third round where he will take on Matthew Pedersen.
On the women's side, Katya Zapadalova beat Courtney Collins from Memphis in her second round match, 6-4, 3-6 and then 10-6 in the third set. She will take on Leah Donoff from LMU on Sunday in the third round.
