BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's tennis players senior Jakub Praibis and junior Dmytro Ishtuganov, are both ranked among the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason top-60 according to the Sept. 10 preseason poll.

Praibis, who finished last year ranked 51st in the country, dons a No. 23 ranking entering the 2004 fall season. In addition to his singles rank, Praibis and his doubles partner, Ishtuganov received a No.55 ranking in the doubles preseason poll.

Praibis, a Litomerice, Czech Republic native, finished the 2003-04 season with a 16-7 overall record and a 5-4 mark in Big Ten play. He played all 23 matches at the No. 1 singles position and was selected to play in the main singles draw of the NCAA Championships. He advanced to the round of 32 before falling in a close match to third-ranked Jeremy Wurtzman of Ohio State, 6-4, 7-6. The All-Big Ten team honoree also earned Spring Academic All-Big Ten accolades and was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week on March 5.

Head men's tennis coach Ken Hydinger was pleased to hear of Praibis' ranking.

"This is a nice reward for Jakub," said Hydinger. "He has made great efforts thus far in his collegiate career. This should serve as a good challenge for him to try to improve upon this ranking throughout the year as well. It is also as an indication of what he is capable of."

In doubles action, the tandem of Praibis and Ishtuganov teamed up to go 16-3 overall at the No. 2 position in doubles action last year. The pair closed out the 2003-04 season with an eight-match winning streak.

While Hydinger was happy to hear of their ranking, he admits that it came as a bit of a surprise.

"Jakub and Dmytro's doubles ranking shocked me a little because they played No. 2 doubles last year," said Hydinger. "They obviously got better as the year progressed and had a great season. Again this represents a challenge for them to have another good year and bodes well for our team as we return two good and established doubles teams."

Praibis will open the fall season for the Hoosiers at the Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Oct. 5-10.
