BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A pair of Indiana University men's tennis players received good news recently. Senior Thomas Richter is nationally-ranked at No. 51 in the ITA Fila preseason rankings. Freshman Jai Yoon has been selected by the New York Korean American Tennis Association to be a part of "Team USA" and represent his country at the National Sports Festival in Korea starting October 8.

Richter enters the 2007-08 season as the Hoosiers No. 1 singles player after splitting time in that slot with since-graduated David Bubenicek last season. Richter has experience defeating the nation's elite, posting a 3-3 record against nationally-ranked opponents in singles and 5-3 mark versus ranked doubles opponents when paired with Dara McLoughlin a season ago.

"Thomas's preseason ranking is a good opportunity to achieve what he has set out in front of himself," said Head Coach Randy Bloemendaal. "Now he needs to focus on taking advantage of the opportunity."

Yoon comes to Bloomington from Bayside, N.Y. where he compiled a 37-6 record during his four-year high school career that included two trips to the New York state quarterfinals.

"Tennis players from all over the world with Korean descent will be represented and I believe it is an honor to have Jai and Indiana University represented in an international setting," said Bloemendaal. "Jai should come away with experience and exposure that will help him develop as a man and tennis player."
