October 3, 1999 MEN'S TENNIS FINISHES OFF CLEMSON FALL CLASSIC
Clemson, S.C.--The men's tennis team finished off the weekend by picking up one flight at the Clemson Fall Tennis Classic. Competing against players from Clemson, Furman, North Carolina-Charlotte and Wake Forest, the Hoosiers went 15-9 in singles and 5-7 in doubles during the weekend. Paul Jacobson won the singles Flight 3 for the Hoosiers and Milan Rakvica went undefeated in singles. The Hoosiers competed against players from North Carolina-Charlotte today and won seven of their nine matches.
At Flight 1, Rakvica defeated Ole Jonsson 6-3,6-2 to finish a perfect 4-0. He finished in second to Georgia Tech's Romain Coirault due to Coirault having lost less games than Rakvica. At Flight 3, Jacobson was victorious over Jeff Kuckma 6-1,6-2 to finish the weekend undefeated. Joey Balsiger defeated John Valenti 4-6,7-6,6-2 to pick up his first win of the weekend in Flight 4. In Flight 5, Ari Widlansky finished off a good weekend blanking Jonathon McGovern 6-0,6-0. In Flight 6, Brendan Storey defeated Matt Wagoner 6-1,6-3. Rahman Smiley, playing at Flight 2, lost his match to Jacob Nordwall 6-4,6-3.
In doubles, the Hoosiers took two out of three matches. Rakvica and Smiley won their match in Flight 1. In Flight 2, Jacobson and Widlansky won their match.
The Hoosier will continue their season next weekend as they will compete in the University of Louisville Fall Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky. Matches will take place from Friday to Sunday.
