October 9, 1999 SUCCESSFUL DAY FOR MEN'S TENNIS AT REEBOK/ITA CHAMPIONSHIP
Austin, TX--The Hoosiers completed a successful day one in the first two rounds of the Prequalification Rounds at the Reebok/ITA Men's All-American Championships. The Championships are the second leg of the ITA Collegiate Grand Slam.
The Hoosiers sent four players to the Championships and all four were successful in their two rounds today.
Junior Ian Arons won his first round match over Nebraska's Ryan Haith 6-1,6-2, before knocking off Alex Bohane of UCLA 6-4,6-3. He will play Ronald Rugimbana of Boise State tomorrow in the third round.
Junior Milan Rakvica defeated Mike Nammar of Tulsa 6-0,6-1, and then was successful in match against Zibu Ncube 6-2,6-3. Tomorrow he will face Chase Exon of Pepperdine.
Senior Gabriel Montilla won his opening round match over Matts Lindelof of Southeast Lousiana 7-6(0),6-2, before getting by Oliver Foreman of Middle Tennessee State 7-5,7-6(5). He will face Juan Bertoldi of Tulsa in third round action tomorrow.
Sophomore Rahman Smiley won a three-set match over Maarten Vissera of Southeast Louisana 3-6,6-1,6-1, before defeating Loyola Marymount's Carsten Eisenrath 6-2,7-6(14). He will play Northwestern's Joost Hol tomorrow.
Play will continue tomorrow with third round action. If the Hoosiers are successful in their round matches, they will also play the fourth round tomorrow.
