    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's tennis players junior Dmytro Ishtuganov, sophomore David Bubenicek and freshman Michael McCarthy will compete in the qualifying round of the Intercollegiate Midwest Regional Championships on Thursday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

    The qualifying rounds will take place on Oct. 21-22, with the main draw to run Oct. 23-26, at the Varsity Tennis Center on the campus of the University Michigan. Eight qualifying spots are available into the main draw, which starts Saturday at 8 a.m,

    Sixteen of the 64 players in the qualifying round were seeded. McCarthy enters the bracket as the fourth seed and will face Valparaiso's Nic Kooyers.

    Ishtuganov will play Nicolaus Hourd of Louisville and Bubenicek will battle Patrick Buchanan, the sixth seed, of Notre Dame.

    Seniors Jakub Praibis, 23rd in the ITA preseason singles rankings, and Ryan Recht and junior Neil Kenner have already secured spots in the 64-player main draw singles bracket beginning on Oct. 23.

    Three doubles teams are slated to compete for the Hoosiers this weekend. The pairs include Praibis and Ishtuganov, Recht and junior John Stone and McCarthy, along with his brother senior Ryan McCarthy.

    The main draw of the singles and doubles competition will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 20, in the evening.
