MacTaggart is Big Ten's Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Oct. 26, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference has honored Josh MacTaggart as Player of the Week for October 17-23. Indiana men's tennis saw a great run at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships come to an end on Sunday with Josh MacTaggart falling in semifinal action in both the singles and doubles flights.
Indiana men's tennis coach Randy Bloemendaal said he liked the fight he saw from his team in Knoxville.
"I really liked what I saw out of our guys this weekend," said Bloemendaal. "We had two semifinalists in the doubles draw and Josh in the semis of the singles draw. Josh has shown since stepping foot in Bloomington that he isn't afraid to play against anyone, and he played that way this weekend."
MacTaggart won five of six matches, eventually falling to Eric Quigley of Kentucky, who is ranked No. 3 nationally in the preseason ITA Rankings. MacTaggart defeated No. 115 Ben Davis of Middle Tennessee State in the quarters, taking a 6-3, 6-4 win. In doubles, MacTaggart and Stephen Vogl fell to eventual tournament champions Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese of Tennessee in the semifinals by an 8-5 tally.
MacTaggart and the Hoosiers head to Iowa City this weekend for the Big Ten Singles Championships. MacTaggart was the Big Ten Singles Champion as a freshman in 2009. For complete coverage of all things IU men's tennis, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
