    Men Finish ITA Regional Championships

     

    East Lansing, Mich.-The Hoosiers two doubles teams were knocked out of the ITA Regional Championships today. The championships, a four-day event taking place on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, including the best men's college players in the Midwest region in both singles and doubles. The men competed well, but the two teams were knocked out by the one and two seeded teams.

    Junior Gabriel Montilla and freshman Rahman Smiley won their first match against the 10th-seeded team from Purdue, Cris James and Jason Marshall, 8-6. That match got them to the quarterfinals where they went up against top-seeded Oliver Freelove and Cary Franklin of Illinois. Montilla and Smiley dropped that match 8-4. The Hoosiers also had sophomores Ian Arons and Milan Rakvica paired as a doubles team. They lost to the 2nd-seeded Jeff Laski and Gavin Sontag of Illinois 8-1.

    The Hoosiers concluded their fall season with the ITA Regional Championships. The men will next step on the court at the Big Ten Singles Championships from Madison, Wisconsin on January 18-20.
