Nov. 10, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's tennis team will travel to the University of Michigan, Nov. 11-13, for the Big Ten Singles Championship.
The Big Ten Singles Championship wraps up the fall tournament schedule for the Hoosiers.
"I think we've made a lot of improvements in the fall," head coach Ken Hydinger said. "Our conditioning is considerably better than it was. Our ball striking is better than it was, and we've got some better concepts of playing the game. We'll see if we can't put everything together this weekend, and have some good results."
Senior David Bubenicek (5-2) goes into the tournament as the eighth seed, while junior Dara McLoughlin (2-2) is seeded 12th. Bubenicek, who is coming off a strong performance at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Regional, will face J. Gomez of Northwestern in the first round. McLoughlin takes on John Allare of Michigan State.
Sophomore Mak Kendall (6-2) faces the toughest challenge in the first round against No. 7 seed Justin Kronauge of Ohio State. Senior Arnaud Roussel (6-2), who won the Hoosier Invitational on Oct. 22, faces Eric Hodgeman of Purdue. Sophomore Peter Antons (6-3) battles Purdue's Griff Nienberg, while freshman Paul Boskovich (3-6) plays Alex Forger of Michigan State.
Last year, McLoughlin reached the semifinals of the championship.
Competition begins Saturday, Nov. 11, with the first and second rounds. The third round and quarterfinals will be played on Sunday, Nov. 12, and the tournament will wrap with the semifinals and the championship match on Monday, Nov. 13. There will also be a consolation bracket.
