Recht Into Round of 16
MADISON, Wisc. - Indiana senior Ryan Recht won a pair of matches and advanced to the round of 16 in the main draw at the Big Ten Singles Championship at the University of Wisconsin on Saturday.
The Fort Wayne, Ind., native defeated qualifier Colin Foster of Purdue, 6-4, 7-5, in the first round and Penn State's Ryan Berger, 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the round of 32. He will play Avery Ticer, the third-seeded player in the tournament, on Sunday morning.
Freshman Michael McCarthy captured his first round match, 6-4, 6-2, over Kyle Markham of Iowa, but fell in the second round. David Bubenicek knocked-off the No. 10-seed Pramod Dabir of Illinois, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, but also fell in the second round in a tough three-set match.
Junior Dmytro Ishtuganov lost to the top-seeded player Andrew Formanczyk of Michigan State, 6-4, 6-0, as did junior John Stone, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-0, to the No. 16-seed Andres Osorio of Minnesota.
Ishtuganov and Stone won there first round consolation bracket matches on Saturday afternoon, with McCarthy and Bubenicek beginning play in the second round consolation matches on Sunday.
