    Praibis and Recht Advance to the Final 16 of the Big Ten Singles Championships

    Minneapolis, Minn. - The Hoosiers completed day one of the Big Ten Singles Championships, with Jakub Praibis and Ryan Recht both advancing to the final 16. In addition, five of Indiana's competitors advanced past the first round.

    Jakub Praibis went up against Chuck Perrin from Northwestern in his first match up of the day. Praibis defeated Perrin, 6-3, 7-5, advancing him to the round of 32 to face Eric Robertson from Minnesota. Praibis moved past Robertson, 6-3, 6-3, putting him up against Vincent Ng from Ohio State. They square off on Sunday, November 17 at 11:00 a.m.

    Ryan Recht will be joining Praibis in the round of 16 on Sunday, where he will meet Andrew Wakefield from Purdue at 11:30 a.m. In Recht's first match of the day he defeated Malcolm Scatliffe from Penn State, 6-4, 6-4, and then claimed a hard-fought upset win over Tommy Hanus from Northwestern, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. Hanus not only was last year's Big Ten Freshman of the Year, but was also recognized as the ITA Region IV Rookie of the Year as well.

    As for the other Hoosiers competing, Viktor Libel edged Roddy Cantey from Penn State in a tough match, picking up a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 win that advanced him to the round of 32. Once there, Libel fell to Adam Schachterle from Northwestern, 6-0, 7-6.

    Jullien Vulliez went up against Troy Havens from Purdue in his first match and claimed a 6-4, 6-3, win that advanced him to the next round where he faced sixth-seeded Adam Formanczyk from Michigan State. Formanczyk beat Vulliez 6-4, 6-1.

    Tommy Bagnato won his opening match against Scott Green from OSU, 6-2, 6-3. Bagnato couldn't keep it going in the second round as he fell Anthony Jackson from Michigan, 6-4, 6-4.

    John Stone dropped his opening match 6-3, 6-1 against third-seeded Thomas Haug from Minnesota, placing him in the consolation round.

    Day two of the three day Big Ten Singles Championships will resume tomorrow with matches beginning at 9:00 a.m.
