Hoosiers Complete Day Two of Big Ten Singles Championships

Ann Arbor, Mich. The Indiana mens tennis team saw its second day of the Big Ten Singles Championships with all three of yesterdays qualifiers (Neil Kenner, Ryan Recht, David Bubenicek), falling to their opponents in the round of 32 and one remaining (Recht) in the second round consolation bracket.
After downing David Anving of Michigan yesterday (6-3, 7-5), Kenner was then defeated by his opponent David Hippee of Wisconsin, 7-5, 6-2 in the round of 32 this afternoon.
No. 9-16 seed Recht, also earning a spot in todays round of 32 after defeating Walter Valarezo of Iowa (6-2,6-2) lost a tough battle to Cameron Marshall of Michigan State, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
Following this match, Recht moved on to the semifinals in the second round consolation bracket after defeating Steve Peretz of Michigan, 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and then winning by the default of Alex Kasarov of Wisconsin . Recht will face Mark Barry of Penn State on Monday, Nov. 17. Time of that match is TBA.
Bubenicek advanced yesterday when he beat Ryan Berger of Penn State (6-2,6-1) but then lost after facing Anthony Jackson of Michigan, 6-4. 6-2.
In the first round consolation bracket, Ryan McCarthy advanced the quarter finals today after first getting by Anthony Stefani of Michigan State, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round and then Carey Rubin of Michigan, 7-6(6), 6-3, in the second. McCarthy then fell to Paul Rose of Purdue, 6-4,6-1, to finish off his campaign. John Stone, Dmytro Ishtuganov and Tom Bagnato each advanced to the round of 16 in this bracket, after defeating Eric Simonton of Michigan State, 6-3, 6-4., Bradley Hunter of Penn State, 6-1, 6-2., and Malcolm Scatliffe of Penn State by default, respectively. Stone then fell to Sounak Chatterejee of Purdue, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. Ishtuganov lost to Mike Flowers of Michigan State, 6-4, 6-3, and Bagnato dropped his match to Scott Green of Ohio State, 6-2, 6-4.
