Bloomington, Ind.-- Indiana men’s tennis head coach Ken Hydinger has announced that Michael McCarthy from Indian Hills, Ohio (Indian Hills High School) has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Indiana University beginning in the fall semester of 2004.

The brother of current IU tennis player, junior Ryan McCarthy, was highly recruited by Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue, and William and Mary. Michael’s rankings are No. 8 in the Midwest and 71 in the nation. Both of these rankings are first year 18 rankings. In addition, Michael was also a finalist in the 2003 Ohio State High School Championships during his junior year.

“We are extremely happy to have Michael as a Hoosier, said Hydinger. “He is a quality athlete and tennis player with an outstanding work ethic and high ambitions. We expect him to make immediate contributions and to be a cornerstone for future teams. It will be fun and exciting to be a part of his development as a player.
