BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head men's tennis coach Ken Hydinger has announced the signing of Santiago Gruter to a National Letter of Intent. He will join the Hoosiers in the fall of 2007.

Gruter, a native of El Salvator, is currently ranked No. 272 in the world by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). He comes to Indiana with international playing experience and has goals to play on the professional circuit.

"Santiago is a good athlete who moves well and has good control, consistency and accuracy," Hydinger said. "He is a young man with strong personal values. We expect him to be part of a group that will help us move up in the national rankings."

Some of the players Gruter has defeated are Michael Scrozynski, who is ranked 31st in the United States, and Jonathan Wong, ranked No. 15 in the U.S. He defeated Wong 6-3, 6-1.

Indiana begins its spring season on Jan. 15, 2007, against Morehead State and IPFW.
