    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's track and field team wrapped up action in day one of the Indiana Open on Jan. 27 in Gladstein Fieldhouse. In the opening portion of the meet, the Hoosiers recorded nine new personal best marks and four first-place finishes. The meet continues on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m.

    Nick Panozzo, the Hoosiers' only heptathlete, turned in two personal bests in the long jump (5.84m/19-02.00) and shot put (12.68m/41-07.25) in the men's heptathlon. After four events, Panozzo sits in fourth place with 2,500 points at the end of day one.

    Kyle Jenkins took a runner-up finish to former IU standout Aarik Wilson, who competed unattached, in the men's triple jump. Jenkins leaped a personal best 15.32m (50-03.25), which bettered his previous mark of 15.20m (49-10.50) that he set on Feb. 27, 2005.

    In the women's pentathlon, IU's Courtney Freiberger, Britney Freiberger and Beth Gibbs finished third, sixth and seventh, respectively. Courtney Freiberger finished the day with 3,140 points in the pentathlon including a first-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:19.24. Gibbs turned in a pair personal-best performances in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.58, and in the shot put with a hurl of 8.91m (29-02.75). Britney Freiberger recorded a new best mark in the 60m hurdles. Britney Freiberger crossed the line with a third best time of 9.05.

    The Hoosier women were successful in the shot put as Andrea Dalla Rosa claimed first place with a heave of 14.18m (46-06.25). Tiffany Howard, who took fifth place, smashed her previous personal best throw with a put of 13.22m (43-04.50).

    Lindsay Hattendorf, Kelly Siefker and Ashley Sommer all notched new personal best marks in the women's 3,000m while teammate Jessica Gall took home first place with a winning time of 9:35.22, which was just .22 seconds off the NCAA provisional mark.

    The women's distance medley relay (DMR) team of Lauren Keefe, Lydia Serfling, Larra Overton and LaDonna Ray made their debut at the Indiana Open with a first-place finish after clocking in a time of 12:30.25.
