FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Against some of the nation's top athletes at the Tyson Invitational, the Indiana men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up a successful first day of competition on Feb. 10. As a team, the Hoosiers compiled nine top-10 finishes, one first-place crown, and six new personal best marks. Additionally, Stephen Haas in the men's 5,000m became the first Hoosier this season to earn an NCAA automatic qualifying mark.

In the women's mile, both Larra Overton and Kelly Siefker broke five-minute miles and recorded new personal best marks. Overton crossed the line in the event's third-fastest time of 5:52.80, while Siefker finished close behind in fifth place with a time of 4:53.44.

Candice Perry continued to look strong in the women's long jump with a third-place leap of 5.94m (19-06.00).

On the men's side, Kiwan Lawson, who earned an NCAA provisional qualifying standard at last weekend's Hoosier Relays in the long jump, recorded a new personal best and a first-place crown with an impressive jump of 7.75m (25-05.25). Teammate Tyler Skelton etched a new personal best next to his name in the event with a 16th-place leap of 7.04m (23-01.25).

In his first meet of the season, Stephen Haas, one of the country's best distance runners, clocked a 13:44.09, a NCAA automatic qualifying mark, a fourth-place finish in the men's 5,000m. Haas is the first Hoosier to earn an automatic time to secure his place at the NCAA Championships. In the mile, Eric Redman nearly broke a four-minute mile when he crossed the line in a new personal best and third-place time of 4:03.78. Additionally, Redman's time met the NCAA's provisional qualifying standard in the event making him the seventh Hoosier this season to meet a standard.
