Drouin 2nd, Sherrill 3rd at Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Indiana sophomore Derek Drouin took second in the decathlon on day two of the Alabama Relays. Junior Faith Sherrill took third in the hammer throw and seniors Kristen Crawford and Kristen Ness were fifth and seventh respectively in the hammer. Junior Laura Morris and freshman Courtney Woodard closed out the heptathlon in fifth and sixth respectively.
Drouin scored 6,592 points for second place, which is the eighth-most in school history. Drouin posted career bests in the 110m hurdles (14.80), the discus (26.30m (86-3)), the javelin (52.33m (171-08)). Drouin's mark in the javelin is more than 24 feet better than his previous career mark. The Corunna, Ontario, native added more than three feet to his career mark in the discus. His point total is a 274 point improvement on his previous best.
Sherrill recorded a heave of 54.04m (177-3), joining a group of only three Hoosier women to ever throw the hammer over 175 feet. Her toss is the second-longest in school history, behind only Jennifer Brown's 2000 heave of 54.38m (178-5). The throw is among the top 30 in Div. I this season. Sherrill added nearly three feet to her career mark.
Crawford threw 51.72m (169-8), improving her career mark by five inches. Her throw is the fifth-best in IU lore. Crawford took fifth, and Ness's toss of 50.07m (164-3) was good for seventh.
Morris scored 4,507 for fifth and Woodard scored 4,430 for sixth. Morris posted a career best in the 800m (2:32.00).
