Hoosiers Perform Well on Day Three in Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Indiana posted three wins and several historic performances on day three at the Alabama Relays. Leading the way for IU were junior Faith Sherrill in the discus and shot put and sophomore Caitlin Engel in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Engel took the win in the steeplechase, with a time of 10:46.67. The time is the fourth fastest in IU history and is among the top-20 in Division I this season. Engel was followed in by freshman Erica Ridderman, who took second with a time of 11:04.15. Ridderman's time is the eighth fastest in school history.
Sherrill won the discus throw with a heave of 49.68m (163'). Sherrill's throw is the seventh best in school history. Sherrill was more than 10 feet better than the second-place thrower. Sherrill was third among collegiates in the shot put, recording a heave of 15.46m (50-8.75). Her throw is the seventh best in school history and puts her among the top 10 in Division I this season. Senior Kristen Crawford was the fifth-best collegiate in the shot put with a heave of 14.93m (48-11.75), the eighth-best throw in school history.
Redshirt freshman Helene DeLone won the 10,000 meters with a time of 37:26.17. Delone finished more than a minute before her closest competitor.
In the women's 1,500m, freshman Samantha Ginther took third with a time of 4:33.19, finishing just .03 seconds out of second. Fellow freshmen Kelsey Duerksen and Arianne Raby were right behind, Duerksen finishing in 4:33.38 for fourth and Raby in 4:36.86 for sixth.
In the men's 1,500m, junior Danny Stockberger took fourth with a time of 3:52.87. Freshman Joe Holahan was right behind him, taking fifth with a time of 3:53.12.
In the 400m hurdles, senior Kayla Smith was fifth (1:01.32) and sophomore Ann-Marie Clarke was sixth (1:01.93). Clarke's time is the ninth best in school history.
Sophomore Kind Butler took fifth in the 100m (10.58) and sixth in the 200m (21.84). Sophomore Ryan Hindes was sixth in the 400m hurdles (53.80). Sophomore Rex Parker took sixth in the long jump, leaping 6.95m (22-8). Senior Martin Stephen was fifth in the 800m, finishing in 1:54.06.
