BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana leads in the men's and women's team standings after day one of the Indiana Invitational. Led by first place finishes from freshmen Andy Bayer and Olu Olumigoke and senior Paul Fearnow, the men's team scored 129 points to net a 13 point lead over the second-place Indiana State Sycamores, and the women's team scored 115 points on the backs of great marks from juniors Sarah Pease and Molly Beckwith. The women have a nine-point lead over the Sycamores. Michigan State is within striking distance in both the men's and women's meets.

Bayer capped off the night with the second regional mark of his young career, this one coming in the 5,000-meters. Olamigoke posted a regional mark in the triple jump, and Fearnow had a career best heave in the hammer throw for his win. Pease took second in the 5K, netting her second regional mark of the season as well. Beckwith was second in the 1,500 meters with a regional mark of her own.

Fearnow's heave of 61.65m (202-3) is the third best in IU history. He bettered his previous best by just under two meters and beat the regional standard by more than five feet. The second place throw, by Michigan State's Anthony Agrusa, was more than five feet shorter than Fearnow's mark.

Bayer won the 5,000m with a regional time of 14:07.21. He was 25 seconds faster than his closest competitor and nearly five seconds faster than the regional mark. Bayer posted a regional mark last weekend in the 1,500 meters.

Beckwith took second in the 1,500m run, finishing in a regional time of 4:23.78. She was more than four seconds faster than the regional mark and just .55 seconds behind the winning time by MSU's Lisa Senakiewich. The time is the eighth fastest in IU history, besting teammate Wendi Robinson's mark from the Pepsi Team Invitational two weeks ago. Beckwith also has the country's second best mark in the 800 meters.

Pease was second in the 5,000m run, finishing in 16:34.21 for her second regional mark this season. Her time is about 18 seconds faster than the regional standard. Pease posted a regional mark at the Pepsi Team Invite in the 3,000m Steeplechase. Freshman Chelsea Blanchard followed Pease across the line for third place.

Olumigoke posted a mark of 15.12m (49-7.25) in the triple jump for a 1 foot 2.5 inch victory. Olumigoke's jump is better than the regional standard of 15.00m. His season best is 15.40m.

Indiana got second place finishes from sophomore De'Sean Turner (1,500m), senior Britney Freiberger (javelin) and the men's 4x100m relay team of seniors Kiwan Lawson and Wil Glover and sophomores Devin Pipkin and Cedric Hudson. Junior Audrey Smoot was third in the 400m hurdles, junior Jackie Coleman was third in the triple jump and senior Tiffany Howard was third in the discus.
