Indiana Track and Field Competes in Day One of the Cardinal Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Indiana track and field team opened competition in the men's and women's hammer throws at the first day of the Cardinal Invitational, hosted by the University Louisville on Friday, April 20.
Sophomore Paul Fearnow became the fifth Hoosier this season to qualify for NCAA Mideast Regional competition with a toss of 55.74 meters in the hammer throw for seventh as the lone men's competitor for IU. His mark is the fifth-best in the IU record book and a personal best.
Fearnow was also joined in competition by freshmen Kristen Ness and Faith Sherrill, who represented the Hoosiers in the women's hammer throw. Ness placed eighth with a mark of 38.54 meters, while Sherrill finished ninth with a toss of 33.90 meters.
The rest of the Hoosiers will be back in action tomorrow as the men's shot put is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m., the women's 4x100-meter relay will start at 2:15 p.m., and the men's 4x100 is will follow at 2:20 p.m.
