Hoosiers Open Competition at Jesse Owens Track Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Members of the Indiana track and field teams got competition underway at the Jesse Owens Track Classic, hosted by Ohio State at Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus, on Friday, May 2.
The evening was highlighted by freshman Andy Weatherford qualifying for the NCAA Mid East Regional in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He was the third collegiate runner to cross the finish line, 14th overall, in a personal-best 9:04.89. Freshman Cole Hardacre was the second collegiate athlete to cross the finish line, third overall, in the men's 5,000-meters as he qualified for the U.S. Junior Nationals with a personal-best time of 14:34.11, while classmate Paul Haas placed 12th overall in the discus with a mark of 51.15 meters (167-10.00).
Results for the women's discus will not be available until Saturday morning.
The Hoosiers will be back in competition tomorrow afternoon as the collegiate/open events of the Jesse Owens Track Classic gets underway with in the field at 3:30 p.m. ET and on the track at 4 p.m.
