BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Indiana got its first two qualifiers for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa in two weeks when Vera Neuenswander and Kelsie Ahbe both earned top-12 finishes in the pole vault on day one of the NCAA East Preliminary Round. Devin Pipkin moved one step closer to punching his ticket as well, advancing to the quarters in the 100 meters. 14 Hoosiers are in action on day two of the meet.
Neuenswander cleared 3.85m (12-7.5) and 4.00m (13-1.5) without any misses to tie for the lead before competition was halted. Ahbe returns to the outdoor national meet for the second-straight year, having cleared 4.00m on her third attempt. The two Hoosiers are the first pair of Hoosiers to advance to an NCAA Championships in the pole vault in the same year.
Pipkin clocked a time of 10.46 for fourth in his flight, advancing to the quarters with the 13th best time in the prelims. He will need to be among the top three from his heat or among the next six fastest times in the three heat quarterfinal on Friday.
The Hoosiers return to action when they host the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Friday, May 27. For complete coverage of all things IU track and field, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
