    FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Indiana's 4x100-meter relay team earned a spot in the finals after competition in day one of the 2008 NCAA Mideast Region Championships at the John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark.

    IU's relay team, made up of Marcus Thigpen, Keith Heerdegen, Jacob Moylan and Kiwan Lawson, clocked a season-best time of 40.33. The Hoosiers placed third in their heat and seventh overall.

    Lawson also competed in the long jump where he finished sixth with a leap of 7.75 meters. His best jump came on his first attempt in the third flight of the day. Thigpen also ran the prelims of the 100-meter dash and clocked a personal-best time of 10.39.

    Indiana gets underway on Saturday as junior Paul Fearnow will compete in the hammer throw at 11 a.m. CT. The Hoosiers' 4x100-meter relay team opens up action on the track with the finals at 5:10 p.m.
