Jenkins, Coover Punch Tickets to Des Moines

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Kyle Jenkins and junior Jeff Coover each earned a trip to the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, after finishing among the top five in their respective events in the final day of the NCAA Mideast Region Championships at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark.
Jenkins was the runner-up in the triple jump with a mark of 16.17 meters (53-00.75). He reached his best mark on his final leap of the afternoon after fouling three of his six attempts. Jenkins recorded a leap of 15.97 meters (4.2 wind) on his second attempt and 15.77 meters on his fifth attempt. Jenkins entered the meet ranked eighth in the nation with a mark of 16.27 meters (May 18).
Coover finished fourth in the pole vault with a final clearance of 5.21 meters (17-01.00). Coover cleared 4.91, 5.06 and 5.21 before missing 5.31 on his three attempts. He entered the meet ranked eighth in the country with a mark of 5.35 meters (April 26).
The Hoosiers' 4x100-meter relay team, made up of junior Marcus Thigpen and seniors Keith Heerdegen, Jacob Moylan and Kiwan Lawson, just missed the top-five with a season-best time of 40.26 to take sixth.
Freshman Paul Haas heaved a personal-best 52.66 meters (172-09.00) to finish 17th in the discus throw.
On the women's side, senior Courtney Johnson finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.24.
The men's team finished in tenth place with 19 points, while the women finished 35th with three points.
