Lawson Earns All-America Honors, Finishes Eighth in Long Jump

DES MOINES, Iowa - Indiana senior Kiwan Lawson earned NCAA All-America honors after placing eighth in the finals of the long jump on the second day of competition at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Lawson's best jump came on his second attempt when he recorded a mark of 7.74 meters (25-04.75). He matched his best leap on his third attempt to enter the final round of the event where he recorded marks of 7.31, 7.28 and 7.56 meters.
Lawson becomes IU's first men's outdoor long jump All-American since Aarik Wilson in 2005. It was his first-ever trip to the outdoor national meet and first All-American honor of his career.
The Hoosiers return to action tomorrow at Drake Stadium as senior Abbie Stechschulte opens competition in the heptathlon with the 100-meter hurdles at 2 p.m. ET. Senior Kyle Jenkins will compete in the qualifying round of the triple jump at 5:15 p.m., and junior Jeff Coover will compete at the same time in the finals of the pole vault.
