    RIVALS MEET ON THE TRACK

Bloomington, Ind. - The Indiana-Purdue rivalry stretches beyond the football fields and basketball courts. This weekend it continues on the track as the rivals square off at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse Saturday at 1 p.m.

This meet should be very competitive. The men's track and field teams for both schools are rated in the top 10 nationally in team power rankings. The Hoosier men are No. 2 and the Purdue men are No. 7.

Indiana appears to have a clear advantage in the meet. While Purdue does not have anyone that is nationally ranked, Indiana has five athletes ranked in five different events.

IU junior Russell Brooks is ranked 22nd nationally in the 60-meter dash with a best time of 6.72 seconds. Freshman Raheem Ellis is at 32nd with a very close 6.74 second dash time. Ellis is also ranked 15th in the 200m dash (21.43). In the 3,000 meter run, senior Tom Chorny ran an 8:06.91 at the Indiana Invitational to place him 19th in the nation.

The Hoosiers also have two nationally ranked athletes in the field events. Senior Jeremy Rochford is 25th in the high jump with a leap clearing 2.16 meters, and junior Kurt Krick is 12th in the shot put with a throw of 18.48 meters.
