BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Two Indiana athletes and two Indiana coaches will compete in the USA Track and Field Championships in Boston this weekend. Seniors Kiwan Lawson and Courtney Johnson will be joined by assistant coach Rebecca Walter and student assistant coach Stacey Clausing. Several Hoosier alumni will also be competing in the event.

Lawson and Johnson both hail from Columbus, Ohio. The pair has been competing together since sixth grade. They will continue that tradition in Boston.

Lawson is a two-time Big Ten champion, with six top-three finishes in Big Ten conference meets, and he has qualified for the NCAA Championships twice in his career. He will be competing in the long jump. He has competed unattached during the indoor season, and still has eligibility for the outdoor season. Lawson's career best mark of 7.75m is the fifth best in IU history.

Lawson has two jumps on the season that are beyond the qualifying mark for the event, 7.50m. At the Indiana Open, on Jan. 12, he had a leap of 7.52m, and at the Gladstein Invitational on Jan. 26, he had jumped for a distance of 7.66m. That mark is the 17th best qualifying mark, and is just ten centimeters out of the top ten. Lawson's mark is also currently one centimeter better than former Hoosier Aarik Wilson, who earned NCAA titles in the long jump and triple jump while at Indiana.

Johnson will be competing in the 60m hurdles. She has been competing unattached during the indoor season, and she has eligibility remaining in the outdoor season. She was a provisional qualifier in 2007, and competed in the Mideast regional during the 2007 outdoor season. She posted a qualifying time of 8.47 seconds and has a career best of 8.39 seconds. Her career best is the fifth best mark in IU history.

Clausing graduated from Indiana in 2007, and she was part of the distance medley relay team that holds the second best time in school history. She serves as a student assistant coach for Indiana, and she will be competing in the 400m. She currently has the ninth best qualifying time in the event, 53.80 seconds, and is within .64 seconds of the top-five. Clausing was a provisional qualifier for IU in two events in 2007, recording a time of 54.37 in the 400m. She was a Mideast regional qualifier and a two-time USTFCCA All-Academic selection at Indiana.

Walter is in her first year as an assistant at Indiana, working with the distance runners. She was a three-time All-American in cross country, a two-time Big Ten champion in track and field, and a three-time national qualifier while at Michigan. Walter has the sixth best qualifying time in the 3,000m, with a time of 9:19.00.

Lorian Price, a 2007 Indiana graduate, will also be competing in the meet. She will compete in the long jump after qualifying with her mark of 6.11m at the Hoosier Hills Invitational last weekend.
