March 7, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Big Ten announced the recipients of the Big Ten honors and individual awards for men's indoor track and field on Wednesday. Two Hoosiers were recognized. Senior Kyle Jenkins was named Second Team All-Big Ten after his second-place finish at the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Saturday in the triple jump. Senior Paul Fearnow received his first Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
This is the second All-Big Ten honor for Jenkins. He bettered his season mark on Sunday with a 15.66m leap at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. His leap was just one centimeter shorter than the first place finisher, netting him second-team All-Big Ten honors. His mark currently ranks in the top-twenty nationally in the triple jump heading into the final weekend before the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
Fearnow finished sixth in the weight throw at the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Sunday. His mark of 18.66m earned three points for the Hoosiers. Just one centimeter shy of his career best, Fearnow's heave was 21 centimeters better than the seventh place finisher. The senior's career best mark, 18.67m, is currently the third best in IU history.
The Hoosiers are in action this weekend at the Alex Wilson Invitational at the Loftus Center on Notre Dame's campus.
