April 1, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana senior sprinter Marcus Thigpen earned Big Ten Co-Track Athlete of the Week honors after recording several impressive performances at the Alabama Relays last weekend for the Hoosiers.
Thigpen claimed gold in the 100-meter dash by breaking the tape in 10.47, improving on his previous personal-best of 10.65. The Detroit, Mich., native also qualified for the NCAA Regional meet with this race. Thigpen later teamed up with fellow Hoosiers to win the 800-meter relay in a time of 1:24.86. He also posted a career-best in the 200 meters, crossing the finish line at 21.77.
This marks Thigpen's first career honor and Indiana's first since John Jefferson was named Track Athlete of the Week on May 9, 2006. He shares this week's award with Josh Hembrough from Purdue.
