    HOOSIERS WIN INDIANA BIG FOUR, SWEEP AWARDS

    Terre Haute, Indiana -- Freshmen Greg Yeldell and Raheem Ellis took both Athlete-of-the-Meet awards as the Indiana men's track team dominated the Indiana Big Four at Indiana State Saturday.

    Ellis won the Track Athlete-of-the-Meet after winning the 100m (10.4), the 200m (21.1) and running on the winning 4x100m relay team (41.1). Yeldell earned the Field Athlete-of-the-Meet Award by winning the long jump (7.00m; 22-11 3/4) and the triple jump (15.49m; 50-10).

    IU junior Russell Brooks also ran well, finishing second to Ellis in the 100m (10.8) and 200m (21.8). Freshman Ryan Huber ran a 48.9 to finish second in the 400m, and teammate, junior Sean Cleary finished fourth (49.0). Junior Chris Ekman (1:52.6) and sophomore Mikko Simos (1:53.2) finished second and fourth in the 800m, respectively.

    In the distance events, seniors Tom Chorny and Bryan Holcomb along with sophomore Aaron Gillen led the IU dominance. Chorny ran a 3:59.2 and Gillen ran a 3:59.5 to take the top two spots in the 1,500m. Holcomb won the 3,000m steeplechase in 9:30.02. Then Gillen (14:59.4) was the front-runner in the 5,000m as Chrony (15:03.2) finished second.

    Freshman Chris Brunt and junior Nick Sears carried the Hoosier hurdling responsibilities. Brunt won the 400m intermediate hurdles in 54.2, and Sears finished second in the 400m hurdles at 54.7. Sears also took third in the 110m hurdles (15.1).

    IU junior Kurt Krick continued to dominated in the shot put, winning at 16.55m (54-3 3/4). Krick also finished second in the discus (48.42m; 158-10). Sophomore Wasyl Fedoriw took third in the shot put with a mark of 14.58m (47-10).

    In the relays; it was Ellis, Brooks, senior Russell Collins, and Kenny Beatty on the 4x100m squad that won in 41.1. Collins, Sears, Huber, and Cleary were on the second place 4x400m team (3:17.5).
