April 10, 1999 HOOSIERS DEFEAT CINCINNATI AND WESTERN MICHIGAN
Bloomington, Ind. - In its first home outdoor competition of the season, both the men's and women's Indiana track and field teams were victorious in a USATC Collegiate Series meet with Cincinnati and Western Michigan. On the men's side, IU was first with 153 points, followed by Cincinnati at 126 and Western Michigan with 123. For the women, IU also scored 153 points, while Cincinnati posted 123 and Western Michigan was third with 118 points.
The Hoosiers had three double-winners for the men. Raheem Ellis won the 100m (10.60) and 200m (21.00). Ellis' 200m time of 21.00 is his fastest mark in this outdoor season and he only needs to run 20.50 to qualify automatically for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Also, freshman Greg Yeldell won the long jump at 23-10.25 (season-best) and the triple jump at 50-4.50. Thrower Kurt Krick won the shot put at 59-3.50 (provisional NCAA qualifying mark) and the discus at 174-10 (season-best).
Other IU winners were Mikko Simos in the 800m at 1:51.63 and Chris Ekman in the 1500m at 3:52.3. Bryan Holcomb won the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:15.1
