BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana track and field team will continue to look for more regional qualifications this weekend as it travels to the Cardinal Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville, on Friday, April 20-Saturday, April 21, at Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky.
Only one field event is scheduled for competition on Friday. The hammer throw will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET. Saturday's field events open with the shot put, which is slated for 12:30 p.m. Events on the track begin with the 4x100 at 2:20 p.m.
The Hoosiers saw success last weekend between Missouri's Tom Botts Invitational and the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Seven Hoosiers posted first-place finishes.
Highlighting this weekend's finishes for the men were sophomore Jordan Kyle and freshman Eric Werskey. For a second straight meet, Kyle and Werskey have reached regional and national qualifying standards.
At the Mt. SAC Relays on April 13, Kyle's 29:14.01 provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 7-9, in Sacramento, Calif. He has already qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional meet in the 5,000-meter run, which will be held in Columbia, Mo., on May 25-26.
Werskey reached his second regional qualifying standard with a toss of 51.78 meters in the discus throw for a first place finish at the Tom Botts Invitational on April 14. Werskey has already qualified for regional competition in the shot put.
