Mt. Sac Relays Days 2-3 (4-19-03)
Walnut, Calif. - One day after Sean Jefferson became just the sixth runner in Indiana history to break 14 minutes for 5000m, Sean's twin brother, John, posted the second-fastest 1500m time in the nation Friday evening at the Mt. Sac Relays. Jefferson, the national runner-up in the indoor mile, won the 1500's top heat with a time of 3:41.53. This is the seventh-best time in school history and just missed the USA Track and Field Championship qualifying standard by three one-hundreths of a second. Jefferson outdistanced defending indoor mile champion Chris Mulvaney of Arkansas.
Eric Redman also turned in a personal-best 1500m time. His finish of 3:48.41 also qualifies him for the NCAA Regional Championship. Nathan Purcell ran a 3:55.34 for 1500m.
On Saturday, defending national runner-up Aarik Wilson finished ninth in the triple jump (15.77m/51.9).
On April 25-26, Indiana heads to two of the most prestigious track and field events in the nation. Some of the Hoosiers will travel to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays, while others travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays.
