May 9, 1999 HOOSIERS DEFEAT PURDUE
West Lafayette, Ind. -- The Indiana men's track and field team continued it's stellar outdoor season by defeating Purdue 107-95. The men's team is now 7-1 on the season.
There were several outstanding performances turned in by the Hoosiers. On the men's side, freshman Greg Yeldell won the long jump (22-5.75) and the triple jump with an outdoor best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 51-11.75.
Also winning for the Hoosiers were Russell Brooks in the 100m (10.84), Russell Collins in the 200m (22.11), Mikko Simos in the 800m (1:50.02-season-best time), Aaron Gillen in the 1500m (3:52.40), Kenny Beatty in the 110m hurdles (14.79),Bryan Holcomb in the steeplechase (9:27.53), Jeremy Rochford in the high jump (6-10.75-season-best mark), Krick in the discus (164-5), and Brian Bowman threw a season-best mark in the javelin at 179-5.
Krick also placed second in the shot put (55-11.25) and Beatty was second in the 400m hurdles (55.61). Chris Ekman placed second in the 800m with a season-best time of 1:51.64. Nick Sears placed second behind Beatty in the 110m hurdles (14.83), and Brian Garriotte was second in the pole vault (16-4.75).
