    Go Hoosiers!
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.--After an action packed day during day two of the 2004 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships, three Hoosiers were top-three finishers as Audrey Giesler claimed second-place in the 3000m-steeplechase with a season-best time of 10:16.25, Aarik Wilson tied for second in the long jump with a leap of 7.43m (24-04.50) and Jake Wiseman grabbed third-place honors in the decathlon with a career-best 7365 points.

Giesler, the defending Big Ten Champion and record-holder in this event, looked really strong throughout the race as she maintained a steady position. Despite not finishing first, Giesler shaved 13 seconds off her previous season best time of 10:27.09.

In the decathlon, Jake Wiseman was in fourth-place heading into today's competition, but with two first-place finishes in the pole vault (4.75m (15-07.00) and the javelin, Wiseman solidified a third-place overall finish.

After two days of competition, the Indiana men's team stands in at sixth place overall with 17 points, and the Indiana women are eighth overall with 21.5 points. The men's team standings are as follows : Minnesota (74), Wisconsin (58), Purdue (41), Ohio State (38), Iowa (21), Indiana (17), Penn State (10), Michigan State (8) and Illinois (6). On the women's side the standings are: Michigan (39.5), Purdue (39), Michigan State (39), Ohio State (30), Minnesota (26), Wisconsin (25), Penn State (23.5), Indiana (21.5), Illinois (19.5) and Iowa (10).

Two-time All American Aarik Wilson came very close to defending his title in the long jump but was unsuccessful as he fell to the 2004 Big Ten Indoor Champion, Paul Hubbard of Wisconsin. Hubbard outlasted Wilson and Nichols Chavous of Penn State (tied at 7.43 meters) by two centimeters to claim the title with a leap of 7.45m (24-05.50). Wilson will look to get back on track and take another shot at defending another one of his titles when he competes in the triple jump tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Kiwan Lawson also competed in the long jump. He advanced to the finals as well and placed eighth overall with a jump of 6.95m (22-09.75).

A total of 10 Hoosiers that competed today advanced to the finals in the respective events. Kelly Siefker was one of the first as finished seventh overall today with a time of 4:35.44 in the 1500-meters. In Siefker's heat, she picked up speed down the stretch and moved from sixth to fourth overall to help her advance into tomorrow's finals.

In the men's 1500-meters Jefferson was strong throughout the race. The NCAA Indoor Champion in the mile made good movement when it counted. Half way through the race, there was a lot of struggle among the competitors to fight for position. Jefferson got comfortable and began to move into the lead. With about 200-meters left to go, he pushed through and went ahead for awhile, but in the last 50 meters fell off to Chris Solinsky of Wisconsin. Jefferson finished with a time of 3:56.71, which put him second in his heat and fourth overall.

In the women's 400-meters Stacey Clausing, Charlene Maddox, LaDonna Ray and Michele Huber represented Indiana. It appeared as if Clausing would close in on her competitors for the win, but hit the wall with about 50 meters to go and finished third in her heat with a time of 56.41. All but Ray will appear in tomorrow's final

David Neville, who is hungry for his first Big Ten Title, earned himself a spot in both the 400-meters and the 200-meters for tomorrow's final. He clocked in a 20.99 in the 200 and a 47.45. Joining him in the 200m will be Andre Grimes who placed seventh with a time of 21.46.

Two Hoosiers advanced to tomorrow's final in the 100-meter dash as Courtney Roby clocked in a 10.64 (fifth overall) and Grimes ran a 10.68 (eighth overall).

Stephanos Ioannou added himself to the ongoing list of NCAA Regional Qualifiers when he placed third overall in the trials of the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 14.18. Ioannou's third-place finish advances him to tomorrow's final set for 1:35 p.m. Ellison Tipton also got her ticket punched to LSU when she cleared a height of 3.75m (12-03.50), which put her tied for fourth overall.

The final day of the Big Ten Championships begin tomorrow at 11:40 a.m. with the women's triple jump.
