Nine Hoosiers Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honored nine Hoosiers with all-region honors for their respective performances at the 2008 NCAA Mideast Region Championships, held at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville on May 30-31.
Kyle Jenkins earned the accolade after finishing second in the triple jump with a mark of 16.17 meters. His top-five finish earned him an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships on June 12-14, held at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Also earning a trip to the national meet and all-region honors was Jeff Coover, who cleared 5.21 meters to take fourth place in the pole vault.
Indiana's men's 4x100-meter relay team, made up of Marcus Thigpen, Keith Heerdegen, Jacob Moylan and Kiwan Lawson, were honored for finishing in sixth place with a time of 40.26. Lawson was also honored in the long jump after placing sixth with a mark of 7.75 meters.
On the women's team, Courtney Johnson and Vera Neuenswander earned all-region honors in their respective events. Johnson placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.24, while Neuenswander cleared 4.06 meters for eighth place in the pole vault.
The USTFCCCA honors the top eight finishers in each event in each region.
