BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the Capital One Academic All-District teams for men's and women's track and field and cross country on Thursday. Six Hoosiers were on the list as first team honorees, meaning they will all be subject to the vote for Academic All-America honors. On the women's side, Hoosiers took five of 11 first team spots on the all-district first team.

Vera Neuenswander, an Academic All-American in 2009, highlights the women's list for IU with a 4.0 in her graduate work in counseling. She is joined by Chelsea Blanchard (3.97, Visual Arts Education), Breanne Ehrman (3.97, Elementary Education), Sarah Pease (3.68, Human Biology) and Faith Sherrill (3.59, Elementary Education). Pease garners All-District honors for the second-straight year. For the men, Andy Bayer (3.56, Biology) earned All-District honors as well.

Indiana track and field director and head coach Ron Helmer said it is always a true honor for his athletes to earn awards which take into consideration both academic and athletic achievement, showing they are the embodiment of the term student-athlete.

"Our goal is to have the best athletes in the country, have them thrive on the track as well as in the classroom, and make them into an all-around person who is prepared to achieve great things in the real world," said Helmer. "To have six kids earn this honor is truly a testament to their hard work and the academic support we get in the athletic department."

The Hoosiers return to action at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on June 8-11. For complete coverage of all things IU track and field, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
