    Boise, Idaho-- Indiana distance runner Tom Chorny advances to this Saturday's 3000m steeplechase final at the 83rd NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Boise State University. Chorny's time of 8:56.29 placed him third in the second section. The final consists of the top four runners from each of the two sections plus the next four fastest times.

    Chorny, from Fruitport, Mich. (Fruitport H.S.), entered the meet with the third fastest time by a collegian during the outdoor season with a winning and school-record time of 8:37.18 at the Penn Relays (April 22). Only Carlos Suarez-Gonzales (8:35.04) from Texas-El Paso and Chuck Sloan (8:37.06) from Oklahoma State have faster seed times.

    Chorny is a senior majoring in geology.
