BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana track and field team is competing at the 2006 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., June 7-10. The Hoosiers will take time out of their incredibly busy schedule to talk to IUHOOSIERS.com. Wil Fleming, who advanced to the finals in the men's hammer throw last night, talked about his first appearance at the national meet.
On competing in Sacramento at the NCAA Championships:
"It's been a great experience so far. The weather has been great. It's hot during the day, then cools off at night. It's been a lot of fun so far."
On the atmosphere at the NCAA Championships:
"It was really amazing. There was a large crowd last night. There are so many athletes and coaches here. My whole family came to California to watch me compete, which makes it that more exciting. I am just taking it all in and enjoying every minute."
On his performance in the hammer throw Wednesday night:
"The throw that got me into the finals wasn't the best throw I can do. It was a pretty easy throw as far as intensity. It was a very technically sound throw. I am hoping to build on that tomorrow. If I can get a little more intensity and use the same technique, I should turn in a good mark."
On his plans for the remainder of the day:
"I am going to go over to the track and watch Ryan Ketchum compete in the shot put. I want to lay by the pool here a little bit and rest up. So far, it's been a great experience, and I am looking forward to the rest of my time here."
