AUSTIN, Texas--In the third day of action at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas, David Neville and Aarik Wilson accomplished what they set out to do as each Hoosier qualified in their respective event to advance to tomorrow's finals. Neville will have a shot at earning an NCAA title in the 400-meters after he took a ninth-place finish in the prelims with a time of 46.12. Wilson also landed a spot to compete after he turned in a mark of 16.39m (53-09.25) in the triple jump to put him in fourth- place heading into tomorrow's finale.

Neville was among some fierce competitors in his heat of the 400-meter dash prelims including, Pan-Am Gold Medalist Mitch Potter of Minnesota. Neville gave a gutsy performance as he battled through a groin injury to squeeze into tomorrow's final with a time of 46.12. He finished third in his heat behind Potter (45.52) and Jeremy Wariner of Baylor (45.03).

Wilson stayed focused and used momentum from last night's third-place finish in the long jump to land a spot in the top-four. Wilson, who entered the meet with the second-best mark in the country (16.91m/55-5.75) finished behind the nation's leader, LeeVan Sands of Auburn, who jumped 17.17m (56-4.00) for first place and Willy Bradley of LSU and Brian Veal of Texas State who both jumped 16.42m (53-10.50) and put them tied for second.

Decathlete Jake Wiseman stands in 23rd place (out of 26 participants) midway through the decathlon. Wiseman's highest finish of the day was in the 100-meter dash when he posted a time of 11.01 to put him 11th-overall.
