Palo Alto, Calif. - Indiana sophomore Sean Jefferson qualified for Sunday afternoon's 1500m final at the USA Track and Field. Sean Jefferson crossed the finish line in 3:47.52 in Friday evening's preliminaries. Sean's twin brother, John, the 2003 NCAA indoor mile runner-up just missed the USATF final with a time of 3:49.

"I'm really proud of these guys," IU head cross country coach and assistant track coach Robert Chapman said. "John just had the misfortune of running in the first heat that started really slow. When it came time to kick, he kind of got jostled and couldn't make up the ground needed.

"Sean is a sophomore, just 20-years-old, and to make the finals of USAs is fantastic. Sean ran a very smart race. he laid back at first and then with 500m to go really put himself in a good position."

Another IU sophomore, Ara Towns, was unable to advance to the women's 100m final. She finished Friday's semifinal in 11.63. Adam Judge finished 14th in the hammer (214-9).

Rose Richmond (long jump), Danielle Carruthers (100m hurdles) and Rachelle Boone (200m) will each compete Saturday.
