    Wiseman Named Assistant Track and Field Coach

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- Jake Wiseman, a 2005 Indiana University graduate and former track and field athlete with the Hoosiers, has been named assistant coach of the Indiana track and field team, director of track and field Randy Heisler announced on Friday. Wiseman will serve as the Hoosiers' pole vaulters/multi-events coach for the 2005-06 season.

    "Any time we can get an Indiana alumni on our staff, it's great for our program," Heisler said. "Jake is a dedicated, mature and hardworking individual and we are glad he has joined our staff. He knows what it takes to succeed at the national level and we know he will pass his knowledge and experience on to our student-athletes."

    Most recently, Wiseman finished runner-up at the 2005 Big Ten Championships and represented Indiana at the NCAA Championships in the decathlon. In 2004, the Corydon, Ind., native also competing in the decathlon at Big Ten's where he finished third and NCAA's, where he came in 21st overall.

    "I am really glad to be back at IU," Wiseman said. "My experience here as a student athlete was so valuable. I am thankful I can continue being part of such a great tradition."

    Wiseman can be found in the Indiana record books with his career-best mark in the javelin (63.07m/206-11) ranking third, and his 7,365 points in the decathlon ranking second all-time.

    Wiseman graduated in the spring of 2005, with a degree in continuing studies.
