Five Hoosier wrestlers begin their quest for national championships and All-America status on Thursday (March 21) as competition at the 2013 NCAA Wrestling Championships gets underway at noon eastern time. Indiana's five student-athletes qualified for nationals mark the most since IU sent a half dozen to the 2010 NCAAs.

Hoosier Wrestling is sending five grapplers to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa from March 21-23. The NCAA office released brackets today and a pair of Hoosiers earned wild card selections, Luke Sheridan (184 lbs) and nationally-ranked Taylor Walsh (157 lbs). Forty-four at-large bids were awarded to fill out the final field of 330 student-athletes competing (33 in each of 10 weight classes).

Three Hoosiers secured automatic bids to the NCAA Championships over the weekend, qualifying with top-seven finishes at the Big Ten Championships. Joe Duca (125 lbs), Adam Chalfant (285 lbs) and Ryan LeBlanc (165 lbs) have each punched their tickets to the national tournament. Taylor Walsh (157 lbs) owns a 29-10 overall record and will likely join his teammates in Des Moines with a wild card selection.

The Indiana University wrestling team (9-10) concluded the 2012-13 regular season on Saturday, dropping a 32-6 dual to #17 Northwestern (9-8). Joe Duca (125 lbs.) defeated #22 Dominick Malone in sudden victory while Luke Sheridan (184 lbs.) extending his current winning streak to eight matches, including five straight in the Big Ten.

Hoosier Wrestling wraps up the 2012-13 regular season on Saturday, Feb. 23 by hosting the #17 Northwestern Wildcats on Senior Day. Five Hoosiers will be recognized for their last home dual: Geno Capezio, Ryan Konz, Jowan Gill, manager Aphten Goldman and student athletic trainer Gracie Hannigan.

Hoosier Wrestling evened its season record at 9-9 following a three-match sweep of the SIUE Duals by a combined score of 111-24. Indiana defeated host SIUE and Lindenwood-Belleville both by final tallies of 33-12 while blanking Knox College, 45-0.

The NCAA released the second of three coaches' panel rankings and the first Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2012-13 wrestling season, and four Hoosiers made both lists. The final rankings and RPI will be two of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine the qualifiers for the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.

Indiana (6-9) won four of eights bouts wrestled at #17 Purdue (14-5) Monday night on the Big Ten Network. The Hoosiers dropped the team dual, however, 28-13, with a pair of forfeits in the line-up due to sickness and injury.

The Big Ten Network is broadcasting Monday night's rivalry match featuring the Indiana Hoosiers (6-8) and #17 Purdue Boilermakers (13-5). The dual is set to begin at 6:30 pm ET and will be shown live on the national network. Tim Johnson (play-by-play), Jim Gibbons (color) and Shane Sparks (sideline) will be calling the action from Holloway Gymnasium in West Lafayette, Ind.

Three Hoosiers kept conference winning streaks alive Friday night against Michigan, picking up bout victories in a 30-13 team defeat to the Wolverines. Taylor Walsh, Luke Sheridan and Adam Chalfant each had their hand raised in the second-to-last home dual of the season.

Luke Sheridan and Taylor Walsh completed weekend sweeps on Sunday, each defeating their second Big Ten adversary in a three-day span. Heavyweight Adam Chalfant was also victorious in Indiana's dual at #6 Illinois. The Fighting Illini (6-2) took the match, however, by a final score of 30-9 over the Hoosiers (6-7).
