JUNIOR SEASON (2010-11)
Earned All-America status, placing eighth at the NCAA Championships ... compiled an overall record of 39-8 and led the nation with 13 major decisions ... also added three tech falls and two pins ... his 39 total victories are the seventh most in school history and ranked third nationally during the 2010-11 season (tops in the Big Ten) ... excelled in both dual and tournament style competition, going 17-2 in duals and placing no worse than third in any tournament besides Nationals ... garnered a +64 point differential in dual matches ... won the Michigan State Open and finished third at the Southern Scuffle, Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and the Big Ten Championships ... was ranked as high as No. 6 nationally at 197 pounds ... totaled six wins over nationally-ranked opponents, including two wins over No. 7 Sonny Yohn of Minnesota and a hat trick of triumphs over Michigan's #11 Anthony Biondo ... won 30 of his first 32 matches ... went a combined 11-0 with six majors, two tech falls and a pin in non-conference duals ... will enter his senior campaign in 2011-12 just 22 wins shy of cracking the top-10 all-time at Indiana for career victories ... named to the NWCA All-Academic team for the third straight season ... an Academic All-Big Ten selection ... also tabbed as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2009-10)
Racked up 30 wins en route to a spot in the NCAA Championships and a seventh-place finish at the Big Tens ... went 30-15 overall with six falls, a tech fall and eight major decisions ... compiled records of 15-4 in dual matches and 5-3 during the conference slate ... a pair of Big Ten triumphs came against nationally-ranked foes, tallying decisions over No. 9 Patrick Bond (Illinois) and No. 13 Logan Brown (Purdue) ... ranked as high as No. 13 nationally himself, concluding the regular season slotted 14th at 197 pounds ... cruised in the Hoosier, F.I.T.E. and Indiana Duals, gathering a combined 8-1 record with four falls, three major decisions and a tech fall ... placed in three non-conference tournaments, taking fifth, seventh and eighth at the Michigan State Open, Southern Scuffle and Las Vegas Invitational, respectively ... named to the NWCA All-Academic team for the second time ... an Academic All-Big Ten selection.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2008-09)
Placed seventh at the Big Ten Championships after posting a 4-4 regular season conference record ... went 20-14 overall with a pin, a tech fall and four major decisions ... reached the stand at the Las Vegas Open, finishing in eigth place with four victories on the weekend ... his last-second takedown sealed the team victory over Purdue, defeating #13 Logan Brown, 4-3, in the second-to-last match of the night ... went 2-2 at both the Missouri Open and Midlands ... won each of his five bouts in the Hoosier Duals and IU Quad ... named to the NWCA All-Academic team
REDSHIRT SEASON (2007-08)
Finished redshirt campaign with an 8-4 record, two pins, a tech fall and two major decisions ... began his collegiate career by winning his first seven matches ... took home the 184-pound title in the Missouri Open Freshman/Sophomore Division with ease; recording, in order, a tech fall, seven-point win, fall and major decision en route to the tournament crown ... also placed at the Cleveland State Open, finishing in fourth place after winning first three bouts to reach the championship semifinals ... just missed out on reaching his second straight tournament finals with a 4-3 loss in the semifinal match.
PREP/PERSONAL
Won the Indiana state championship in 2007 ... a four-time member of Team Indiana ... compiled a career record of 140-28 ... holds the school record for pins in a season (33) and career (79) ... his 51 wins in a season are also a school record ... a National Honor Society member ... also lettered twice in football ... the son of Jack and Annie Powless ... has three siblings, Katie Powless, Jamie Johnson and Heather Schroeder ... born on Jan. 10, 1989 ... currently doing graduate work, pursuing a master's degree in Psychology Counseling.
