#8 Huskers Top #21 Hoosiers In Friday Night Fight
Jan. 10, 2014
LINCOLN, Neb. - Redshirt seniors Ryan LeBlanc and Adam Chalfant each notched victories over nationally-ranked opponents at Nebraska Friday night, joined in the win column by redshirt sophomore Ethan Raley. #8 Nebraska (7-0, 2-0) took the team triumph, 30-10, over the 21st-ranked Hoosiers (7-3, 0-2).
LeBlanc's W is his 28th of the season, tops in all of Division-I wrestling. While he didn't register a major decision in Lincoln, he still paces the country in that category as well with 10 majors. LeBlanc (28-7) took down Austin Wilson in the opening period to go ahead 2-0. He then started the second stanza in the bottom position, and escaped the ride of Wilson to stretch his edge to 3-0 entering the final frame. Wilson, the 14th-ranked 165-pounder, scored two points in the final seconds, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit as LeBlanc garnered the big win.
Chalfant continued his impressive senior campaign, improving to 17-1 with a 10-2 major decision over #25 Collin Jensen. The Hoosier heavyweight is no stranger to bonus points, earning the extra team tallies in half of his bouts (four pins, two tech falls and three major decisions). For the second straight Big Ten dual, Chalfant dominated the action and limited his opponent to just escape points. He posted three takedowns en route to his second conference win in as many matches.
Raley (24-7) allowed no offensive points in his bout either, picking up a 6-4 decision over Adam Joseph. Raley's Big Ten debut included a pair of takedowns and a reversal while surrendering four escapes.
